WEDDINGS

Indian traditional weddings are vibrant, elaborate celebrations rich with cultural tradsitions and rituals that vary greatly across different regions and religions in India. Here are some general aspects that are often involved.

1. Pre-Wedding Rituals:

- Engagement Ceremony : This includes the exchange of rings and marks the official agreement between the families.
- Mehendi Ceremony : Here, intricate henna patterns are applied to the bride's hands and feet.
- Sangeet : A festive celebration with music and dance, typically held a day before the wedding.

2. Main Wedding Rituals:

- Baraat : The groom’s procession, where he traditionally arrives on a horse or elephant, accompanied by dancing and music.
- Garland Exchange : The bride and groom exchange floral garlands, symbolizing their acceptance of each other.
- Kanyadaanam : The ceremony where the bride's father gives her away to the groom.
- Saptha padhi : The couple circles around a sacred fire (Agni) several times (usually seven), making vows to each other.
- Mangalyadharanam : The groom applies a red powder to the bride’s hair parting and ties a sacred necklace around her neck, symbolizing her married status.

3. Post-Wedding Rituals:

- Appaginthalu : This emotional ceremony involves the bride saying goodbye to her family and throwing back rice to signify paying back her parents for all they have given her(Generally not performed in Tirumala).
- Reception : Held by the groom's side, this event celebrates the newly married couple with food, music, and speeches.

These celebrations can last several days, with each event designed to not only celebrate the union but also to strengthen family bonds. The wedding attire is typically very ornate, with the bride often wearing a sari or lehenga in rich colors adorned with gold, and the groom wearing a sherwani or another traditional outfit. Each aspect of an Indian wedding is deeply symbolic, reflecting the values and traditions of the specific cultures and religions involved.
